Your own business in a new country

Your own business in a new country almost always starts from zero. Your old degree isn’t recognised here straight away, there are no clients yet, nobody knows your name, and you need money to live on right now. And still the thought lives inside you: “what if something of my own?” A business grows the same way as life after a move — from the bottom up, step by step. Like an oak from an acorn: your past experience isn’t lost, your new business grows out of it.

This is how your own business usually grows. Eight steps — from the first thought to a business that lives and helps others. Each step has its own difficulties, its own questions and what helps you keep going. Tap a step to learn more about it.

From the bottom upThe lower steps hold up the higher ones. While you have nothing to live on, it’s hard to think about advertising and strategy.
Your own summitNot everyone needs a big company. For some, the summit is a one-person business that feeds the family and leaves time for the children; for others, it’s a team and branches. You choose.
Business rests on lifeIf one of life’s anchors wobbles — sleep, your own people, clear rules — the business wobbles too. Then start with the path “Steps. Your path in a new country”.
Going down is normalA big client leaves, your child falls ill, you move to another canton — and you’re a step lower again. That’s part of growing too.
There’s only a thought“What if something of my own?” — and maybe it’s a little scary. This is where the trail begins.
Bigger than youThe business lives, grows and helps those who come after you.

Where are you now on your business path?

Most often it feels as if everything comes down to advertising and clients. But really it’s one of the lower steps that creaks: a cushion to live on, your own circle or the courage to name your price. Find the phrases you recognise yourself in and open that step. And at the introductory meeting we’ll look together at where you in particular should start.
